If an award makes half of the internet so pissed, is it really correct to say that it is not relevant?
I am not even getting into whether the WON awards are biased or not. Or whether I agree with them or not (spoiler alert: I am a huge AEW fan and not the biggest WWE fan but there are a lot of awards I do not agree with. Some if not most have to do with promotions beyond AEW and WWE).
But what I find incredibly funny is how pissed people are getting at these.
Firstly, this isn't an award that Dave or Bryan decided. It's fans who subscribe that voted. Someone like you could have voted. Now you may say that you do not subscribe to WON and do not want to. Which is perfectly fine. In which case it really should not bother you what a group of people that you do not agree with think about.
For example I think Cornette is an idiot. And anyone that listens to him in 2023 is an even bigger idiot. However if Cornette starts his own set of awards, voted by his fans (I have no idea if he already has one), I wouldn't care.
You have every right to say Meltzer and his fans are irrelevant. But by getting so pissed that it's an internet meltdown, you're only proving that he is in fact incredibly relevant. And believe me, there is a meltdown. Every forum I follow that is simply reporting these awards, are getting a ton of comments with people expressing how pissed they are.
Imagine being pissed at an open voting awards when you did not vote for it. Most people complaining have zero clue that it's a vote based award and not Meltzer's personal opinions.
Since most of you are a bit slow, do I agree with the awards? That is a different topic. But am I enjoying the meltdown? Absolutely. At this point I would genuinely want Meltzer to post more controversial views on wrestling just to see people get so worked up about them.
